Ingredients:
- 0.5 cups of warm milk
- 3.5 tsp dry yeast
- 0.5 tsp sugar
- 1 cup unsweetened condensed milk or low-fat cream
- 5 tbsp (75 g) butter
- A large pinch of nutmeg
- 1 cup of sugar
- 1 tsp. grated lemon zest
- 4 cups of bread flour
- 4 eggs, lightly beaten + 1 beaten egg for brushing the dough
- 1 teaspoon of salt
Preparation:
- Mix milk, yeast, and 0.5 teaspoon of sugar. Let stand until the mixture foams.
- Heat the evaporated milk in a saucepan. Add the butter, nutmeg, sugar, and lemon zest. Stir until the butter melts.
- Place the flour in a large bowl. Add the eggs, yeast mixture, and salt. Add enough of the milk mixture to form a soft dough. Knead for 15 minutes.
- Let the dough rise until it doubles in size. Then punch it down and let it rise again.
- Preheat oven to 160°C. Beat the egg with 1 tablespoon of water and brush the surface of the loaf with the mixture.
- Bake in a preheated oven for about 50 minutes.
