Sweet and Spicy Texas-Style BBQ Sauce

topcook.tomathouse.com

Ingredients:

  • 4 strips bacon, chopped
  • 0.5 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 180 g tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 0.5 - 1 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 0.5 tsp coarse salt
  • 0.5 tsp freshly ground black pepper

Preparation:

  1. In a medium saucepan over medium-low heat, cook the bacon until crisp, 8 to 10 minutes. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain. Enjoy the bacon.
  2. Add the onion to the pan with the rendered fat and cook over medium-low heat until it begins to caramelize, 6-8 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for another 2 minutes. Add the tomato paste and cook, stirring occasionally, for another 3 minutes.
  3. Add the broth, sugar, vinegar, cumin, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper and bring to a boil. Simmer until the sauce thickens, 15-20 minutes.
  4. Let cool to room temperature before using. This sauce goes great with beef brisket or short ribs.
