Candied nuts at home

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 100 g walnuts (about 1 cup; do not use small pieces)

Preparation:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). In a medium bowl, combine powdered sugar, cayenne pepper, and salt.
  2. Bring water to a boil in a small saucepan. Add walnuts and blanch for 3 minutes. Drain thoroughly, then immediately roll the walnuts in the sugar mixture until completely coated. The sugar will melt slightly.
  3. Transfer the walnuts to a baking sheet or skillet and roast, stirring occasionally, until deep golden brown, about 10 minutes. Keep an eye on the nuts, as the sugar can burn easily. Let cool completely and serve.
