Granita with spiced wine

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups of dry red wine
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 whole cloves
  • 1/2 tsp whole allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon black peppercorns
  • Whipped cream, for serving (optional)

Preparation:

  1. Combine wine, sugar, cinnamon stick, cloves, allspice, and peppercorns in a saucepan. Place the saucepan over medium heat and heat, stirring, until the sugar dissolves. Cook for another 5 minutes, then remove from the heat and let steep for 15 minutes.
  2. Strain the mixture into a 20cm square baking dish and freeze completely, for about 5 hours. Scrape the granita with a fork and spoon into glasses. Serve with whipped cream.
